Single Wall vs Double Wall Paper Cups: How to Choose
How single wall and double wall paper cups differ in construction, handling, and typical use, and which one suits your service style.
Single wall cups have one primary paper wall and are often paired with a sleeve for hot drinks. Double wall cups add a second paper layer for insulation and comfortable handling, so they can frequently be served without a sleeve.
Construction
A single wall cup is formed from one wall of food-grade paper with a barrier coating on the inside. It is the most common hot cup format in foodservice and works well across a wide range of beverages.
A double wall cup adds an outer paper layer around the cup body. The air gap between the layers is what changes the handling experience.
Service style
If you already stock sleeves, single wall cups keep your unit cost lower and let staff add a sleeve only when the drink is very hot.
If you want a cleaner counter with fewer components, or you serve mostly hot drinks that would always need a sleeve, double wall reduces the number of items to manage.
Branding
Both formats can be printed in full color. On a double wall cup, the printed surface is the outer wall, which gives a smooth, substantial feel that many brands prefer for flagship locations.
